Lizzie's another year older. Twelve or six, I don't know. Her records say she is turning 12 but she acts more like six years old. Anyway, we were able to celebrate Lizzie's birthday. She and her fellow packmates finally had the chance to have some ice cream! Hoover and Lizzie gobbled it up. Nikita took her time and savored the ice cream while the other dogs watched in anticipation. Lizzie's present was a stuffed soccer ball. I don't think it will see dawn. Lizzie has been chewing it since she first saw it. Even Hoover is waiting for the perfect time to seize the toy. It is nice to have Lizzie's joyous barks. I'm glad we decided to adopt her.
But on other news, I have a sled dog act of heroism. This will be a new honor I give out to people or animals who show their love for others. So, back to the story. A pair of dog owners traveled over three states and 15 hours to rescue two old hound dogs. In a snowstorm I might add. They are great people and one of them is a great musician. He even wrote a wonderful song about his own dogs. I met them at a fabulous restaurant that is wonderful to just go in. I would like to give them the sled dog honor of the week! You are awesome Darra and Richard.
This week I amgoing to attempt to make a video blog. This video blog will be a bit of a draft since I have just started making videos, so, please bear with me. I need to learn to hold the tablet more steadily. I also need to hold the tablet the same way when taping. I hope you don't get motion sickness. Mum wanted me to add we used a free app and could only do less than 30 second clips. I hope you enjoy as well. It sure was a blast taking the footage.
I'll get to the writing part of this blog. I'm excited to talk about the Puppy Bowl! Yet, the dogs that interests me the most is Suri and her friends Shyla and Hudson. They will be on the Puppy Bowl and I hope you look out for them. Suri is a Siberian Husky like Lizzie and Nikita. Hudson and Shyla are Great Pyrenees like Hoover, well we think he has Pyrenees in him. I hope you watch the Puppy Bowl and maybe stick around to watch the Super Bowl. Have you been staying warm? I certainly have been, I have to stay in most of the time. We have had a lot of school delays. Even Hoover is limiting his time outside. He has been hogging Nikita's spot by the stairs. It's forced Nikita to find a new spot in the living room. It's nice to see the old girl. Stay tuned if you wish to see better videos in the future.
I goofed it up again. Another disastrous school spelling bee. I felt ready and confident, even 7th grade words but not 8th grade. I believed I had learned my lesson from last year, slow down. If you haven't guessed yet, I failed. I went up for my first word. There I looked at the crowd. Then I panicked. I felt nervous and flunked another spelling bee, yet again. "Limited." "Uh, limited. L-i-m-e-t-e-d. Limited." As the saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I hope this doesn't happen thrice. I'm going for it again next year. My luck still wasn't changing. Later in the day, a friend tried to hand me a piece of paper when he accidentally poked me in the eye with the corner of it. I had to go to the nurse's office and get some ice. The nurse told me I should tell my parents if my eye started to itch because I may have scratched my eye. Then I had to try to type with one hand while my other hand held the ice pack or only have one eye open. This really was not my day. I hope all you dog lovers have better luck than me. I could really use a laugh. I hope you all enjoy this great video about a stubborn husky.
We were robbed this week. Robbed of snow. First we had a light drizzle of rain that turned our smalll amount of snow to slush. Then it snowed again but then the sleet came. There was a cycle happening. The dogs were discontent when this happened. Even Lizzie, the sled dog who stays in wanted to go for a walk in the snow. She kept looking out the window for snow.
We heard that Bloomington might get up to ten inches of snow. But the inches continued to drop. Finally, we were fortunate to get a few inches of snow. But then it was too cold to go out to play. I wanted to yet mum has strict rules about below zero tempatures. Even Hoover can't stay out for long. Both of us long for freedom and snow.
We were lucky though. The temperature was above zero today. The whole family got to go out and enjoy the snow when we went on a walk. That includes Nikita as well. She even came to the door her face telling you, 'Don't leave me behind'. So, we took her along. She even kept up with the other dogs. All the dogs soaked it up. After the walk, Nikita was more than happy to go inside. She is almost 14 after all.
And this week's selected dog for the blog is Virginia, a sweet husky lab mix. She is about six years old and a touch plump. She may need to loose some weight. Virginia likes other dogs and cats. She enjoys others company, such as adults and kids. Virginia is a lucky dog as well. She was taken to a shelter in Kentucky during the holidays. She would have been euthanized, yet Northern Lights found her and gave her another chance. So, help Virginia or other dogs this year.
As I sign off, I present to you a husky's childhood (in 3 minutes or more). Please enjoy.
I hope everyone had a happy holiday season and New Year's. I know the dogs and I certaintly had a good season. The dogs received some good gifts when Christmas came along. Hoover got a stuffed Bumble and Lizzie received a small puppy. Lizzie wasn't that excited yet Hoover was happy to take the puppy. They all got a bone and cookies and that, for the dogs, was the highlight of the day. And the "Cozy Corner" fort had an extension put up so mum could join me in it. Yet it was threatened. I was going to sleep in the fort when Nikita came in with Lizzie. Lizzie leaped onto the the bed and settled down. Nikita stood by the entrance. Then "Hurricane Hoover" arrived. He lumbered in and threatened to cause destruction. Yet he suprisingly left, causing no harm. So we slept safely that night in a safe fort. For now at least.
And New Year's came letting us all have a good time. Hoover has a nice resolution, to give 100 kisses. It sounds better than it feels. Hoover loves holidays, New Year's especially. He got to have a morning walk at Lake Griffey with the family too. Well, Nikita stayed with us for a bit. She is a little old and waited for us in the truck.
We followed a creek which met another side creek. The others decided to cross it. I was the sensible one. When mum and Lizzie crossed, I could hear the ice crack. When dad and Hoover crossed farther down, they fell through the ice. I should mention the water only came up to about my dad's ankle. It was good fun. There we met a dead end, which was full of mud. When we returned to the car, our boots were coated in mud. But we had a blast. The dogs seemed to enjoy it too. They were tired sled dogs the rest of the day.
I still have two more days left on my break, with a few more activities planned so stay tuned for more!
