Dog Whisperer

You may be wondering about my title and you will find out more about it when you read it. So to start right off the bat, I'll tell you how I got this title.
So, there were a bunch of thunderstorms in Bloomington. One came at night by our house. I was in bed and it was raining and there was a lot of thunder. Then, in the night, Nikita got nervous and ended up in my room to settle down. We think Lizzie followed her. Nikita was sleeping but Lizzie was crammed under my desk. I found this out by waking up in the middle of the night. I saw this and then fell back to sleep.    When I woke up my parents were in my room and chattering like birds. Lizzie was gone but Nikita was passed out on the floor. Since then my parents have called me the "Dog Whisperer."
Nikita usually isn't afraid of storms and she went to my parent's room first yet found comfort in my room. Lizzie also seems to find comfort with Nikita. They hang out a lot in the family room.
Lizzie has found a new hobby, digging for moles. Hoover seems to enjoy it as well. He watches Lizzie dig. She has yet to catch one. My parents tell me Nikita was quite the mole catcher in her younger days. She would wait by the hole for the moles. Yet I have another story.
We were going to take Lizzie out when she got real hyper. Mom said, "Does Lizzie wanna go for a walk?" And Lizzie would howl and run to the door and back. She was jumping around. It seems that she understands English. And Lizzie got her walk. Now she is passed out from her busy day.
I'm taking the week off from camps. We'll have to see what my parents have in store for me. I know one thing, we won't be watching fireworks in Bloomington. It's because there isn't enough money for it.

Dogs Do the Darndest Things

Today's blog post will be about my camps and fostering. So let's get started. I had two camps this week. One was in the morning and the other was in the afternoon. The first camp was Lego Robotics.
It was where you would receive a kit with all the pieces you needed to make a robot. It was a lot of fun. I ended up having to make our entire robot. My partner was just playing Star Craft on the computer. At least my robot did well in our robot fights and I feel independent.
The next camp was a blast as well. This camp was Written and Illustrated By. Well, for me, it was written by. This camp was where you would write your own story and illustrate it if you chose to. My story was about a wolf surviving the wild and with a dark memory of his parents death.
That will really be all about my camps for the week. Now it should be time to talk about my experience in fostering. Personally, I feel good when I do something to help a dog. I feel great! And of course, when I see a dog go, I feel sad at their departure. Yet I know they are getting a great new home. Here are some moments that make me feel happy when I think of our fosters.
Percy, I'll always remember that when we were walking out of the Sports Rec. Center. I tripped on the stairs and fell to the ground. Luckily, I was able to break my fall. But Percy thought I wasn't well. He jumped on me as cover.
Sebastian had his slipper paws and the twirl he would always do when it was dinner time. Mimi was kind of boring but sweet. Mitzi was sassy and I'll never forget when she got our potatoes off the counter. Lumen seemed to have a bad case of  separation anxiety. I'll never forget the candy canes she got off the table and finished off.
Alue was often seen as laid back and Lucien was a good boy. Pulaski would eat faster than the other dogs and then hang around watching them eat. When they were done, he would lick the bowls. And Lizzie can yodel well and her trade mark is backing into you for butt scratches.
These are all fun things about my fosters. If you have a pet story that makes you laugh or smile, please share in the comments and tell your story. Stay tuned, for more sled dog adventures and camp stories.

Summer Fun

Today's post will be about a soccer camp which I did this past week and Cutters tryouts. I don't want to turn my blog into a soccer blog but the dogs haven't done much. But first I'll talk about IU soccer. The conditions were hot yet I gave it my all. It has great coaches and is a lot of fun! But after IU camp on Tuesday and Wednesday, I had tryouts for U-11.

Tryouts were fun as well, though right in a week of soccer, a little tiring. But I played hard, smart and well. And that showed. I'm on the Red Team. The Red Team plays harder competition than the other two teams.
And to top off everything, I have a new indoor soccer league.  So, I'll be pretty busy for the next several weeks along with other camps I shall mention on my next post if you're patient enough.
Now for Movie Review time! Today I have two movies. The very old Radio Land Murders and the very young Man of Steel
Radio Land Murders is a murder mystery comedy about the "new" radio station WBN. WBN has just started broadcasting  and to celebrate the station is performing in front of a live audience. But someone is killing off employees. It's up to Rodger Henderson to find out who the killer is and what are his motives. This is a must watch.
Man of Steel is the new Superman movie as you all know. This is a great edge of your seat thriller. Superman must face General Zod and the remaining Kryptonians in an epic battle to the finish.
And I have just got news about Lizzie. At my Father's Day cook out Lizzie refused to get off the sidewalk. She stubbornly sat on the sidewalk. Even Nikita got off the sidewalk to sit in the grass.  Yet the shish kabobs were great. My compliments to the cook.
Since this is a Sled dog blog, checkout Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue. They have lots of great dogs looking to be adopted.  Stay tuned for more on Lizzie's life with Nikita and Hoover.

A Week of Ups and Downs

As I said on my last post, I'd talk about Comic Book Camp. Well, this is what happened.  We went to the school were the camp was. When we looked for the classroom that hosted the camp we couldn't find it. So, we went to the office and asked. Guess what? THE CAMP WAS CANCELLED!!!
Can you believe it?! I was very, and I mean very, disappointed. It was cancelled because there weren't enough kids. At least we got our refund back. Good thing there's a second week of Comic Book camp, if enough kids sign up. I had an afternoon camp, Yeah!
That other camp was called the Shadow. The Shadow was an old radio murder mystery show if you didn't know. In that camp we would listen or watch the Shadow. We even wrote our own mysteries and in my opinion, was a bunch of fun. But I have more to talk about. And that includes the Animal Shelter Tour!
Remember when I talked about in another post that I placed in the essay contest? Well, we finally got our prize - a tour of the animal shelter. We got to see all the cat colonies, dog kennels and stray dog kennels. In the stray kennels we met Aspen, the Husky/Malamute mix. He was all white and had that classic Malamute howl not like Hoover's yowl. I hope Aspen gets adopted soon. He's a good dog. Really, I hope every animal is adopted.
But there is sad news as well. A rare brain tumor has claimed a life. Peyton, a boy I'm  related to died this week. He was very young and I'm very sad along with my family. He was a good boy and had a nice sense of humor. He loved Spider-man.
I would like to end this blog with a small dog story. Nikita was in a playful mood today. But since she hardly plays, the others had no idea at what to do. Lizzie stepped up to play when Nikita barked and playbowed, thus, scaring Lizzie. This carried on for a while until Nikita became her old self and took a nap.
If you want to hear about a camp that certainly should have enough kids, stay tuned!
P.S. And if you like soccer as well, you can figure out what I'm doing.

A Birthday and Soccer

Well, it was Hoover's 5th birthday. He's now about 35 in dog years and is still living with his parents. And he still is a kid. We gave him an alligator squeaker. Yuck. He just chewed it up. Now it's all wet and slobbered up.
Now to talk about the last day of soccer. It was our last game as U-10s. So I wanted to do my best for the end of the year. And if you play with your best effort the entire year, you can get to keep the effort ball. And now to tell you about the games and something I got. Hint, hint.
We played Columbus the first game. The fields were terrible because there was a bunch of rain. The center was like a swamp. So the game wasn't the best. We lost because we got tired. The other team could sub their entire team and we had no subs.
The next game was a lot better. We played Center Grove and number 3, again. This game was good for Cutters. In the first half we led. The second half was action packed. The game was tied, 6-6 late in the game. We had some great team play at the end, lots of passing. I called for ball and one of my teammates passed me the ball, I shot and scored. That was the game winning goal for Cutters. For the last minute we played defense until the game was won.
Then the Best Effort balls were handed out. Our coach said my name and I said, "Huh? What? Oh." I was surprised and dumbfounded for a moment. Then I was happy and excited.  And it sure felt good to get it.
Now a short animal shelter story. This is about a kitten who thought Mom was it's mother and sucked on her shirt. I was sitting down when another kitten dove under my feet. I was wondering why when that other kitten leaped on my back and scratched me. I yelled and shot up. It was a little embarrassing. I will also mention the kittens really liked me because I spilt a meatball sandwich on my shorts earlier in the day.
Next post will be about my comic book camp and the behind the scenes tour of the animal shelter. So stay tuned.
