The YMCA Late Night and the Race

This week was the week I went to the Y and guess what? It was the overnight! All the kids that went would have the choice of spending the night at the Y and doing a bunch of great fun stuff, like going out into the woods and playing lots of games.
But before the sleepover would come we went to the Bryan Park pool, where I learned a very important lesson. It is always good to put on too much sunscreen. I was cooked on my shoulders Thursday. So I was miserable for a short while but today I'm feeling much better.  I had a fun time because I was able to stay up to 3:50 a.m. with my friends watching movies. It was great to be reunited with my two good friends and one got a black eye.
We were playing dodge ball when he threw a ball at a kid and the kid got mad and tackled him. Though I suppose you would  like to hear about less violent things like a bicycle race.

It was the fun annual race in Bloomington. I was hoping one person from the Trek sponsor would win a race, for there were several, but no one did. At least Mom got some OK pictures (don't tell her I said that.) I enjoyed eating pizza and watching the races. There were a couple of crashes but no one seemed to get hurt too badly.
Start of the race

I hope you like hearing about Mom. After the shelter, we went to the driving range because a special camp is coming  this week. She could not hit a good ball! I mean her shots went in the air and landed a few yards away.
If you want to hear more about golf blunders stay tuned for my next post. There shall also be big news as well! The dogs meet the city.

Hacker's and Animals

Hello all you dog lovers! Today's post will be about a camp that has to do with shelter animals and a tournament of hacking a ball. We have a lot to get to so I shall start with my camp's story.
This week I went to a camp at our local animal shelter. It was called the Paws and Claws camp. In this camp we would play with dogs or cats. Even the person who inspired my blog dropped her grandchilden off at camp. That's right, Finney!
And for the cat lovers reading here is something you would like to hear. The campers were able to see 8  two week old kittens bottle fed. We were able to pet them too. It was fun to do that. But we also got to play with three dogs. Scout and Gage were German Shepherds and Phoebe was a Poodle.
We split into three groups for the dogs. I was with Scout. She was a nice intelligent dog. We washed all the dogs but Scout was not washed because we ran out of time. But she did an agility course and that was a lot of fun to because Scout is so intelligent.
But now I suppose I should tell you about the "Hacker" part of my story. On Saturday Hurryin' Hackers came but it carried on to Sunday because a storm came :(
Before the storm

Hackers is where teams of four would compete in a small sided game  (4 on 4 on a small field with little goals). We first played the Hot Shots on Saturday. We were the FC Kickers. We won 9 to 1 and our next game was a forfeit by the other team. Then we played two teams older than us and much bigger. They also knew each other a lot better. One team was all brothers or cousins.
We made it to the quaterfinals and then we lost big time. But I still had a blast. And you should stay tuned for a blast as well on my next blog post!

Rants and Raves

I have some very sad news to announce about huskies and malamutes. There have been some recent killings in the Midwest for sled dogs. In total four sled dogs were killed. The first was a husky named Uconn who was adopted from Northern Lights six months ago. He got out of his yard and when his owners realized Uconn was gone they were in close pursuit. But then a man shot Uconn with a bow and arrow. The man claims to have shot Uconn because he attacked his chickens and threatened him and his dog that was chained up.
Another man killed two malamutes because they followed him home and did not leave his home when they got out of their yard. And one more man shot another husky, named Tyson, because he thought the dog was aggressive with his tail between his legs. That is a sign of submission.
I don't understand it, it makes me sad. I'm glad that our neighbors have helped the couple of times our dogs got out rather than shoot first. But I should talk about a lighter topic.
Lizzie improved her mole hunting tactics. She may have talked with Nikita for instead of coming to the mole she waits for the mole to come to her. So far she has caught no moles but still could. Hoover and Lizzie also enjoyed running in between the branches of half a tree that fell during a storm. That is until Dad and the neighbor chopped the tree up.

This week was a soccer week. I went to the YMCA and did British Soccer in the afternoon and South soccer in the evening. I think I did well because we won a tournament at the British Soccer camp and at South soccer I stood up to older kids when I was paired up with them. The coaches were nice and I learned a lot from them.
But you will want to stay tuned for mole progress and an animal shelter camp. Also there is another bigger soccer tournament at Karst Park on Saturday, Hurryin Hackers. 'Nuff said!

Dog Vacation

The dogs are on their own little vacation. But they still cause chaos.Though today's blog will be in chronological order even though it always has. Dad and I went to a cave down in southern Indiana. It was the Marengo Cave.
It was discovered in 1883 by two children that went down a sinkhole. They each only had a candle but there were lights all over when we went in. But then we went through lantern alley. It was a  path with lanterns all over and then I knew how settlers saw the cave. We heard that people who came to the cave in the 19th and early 20th century would come to a small creek and drink from cups. Today calcium has built up around them so they stick there now. The staff tried to remove a cup but it was too fragile so it broke.
There was another thing settlers did and people do today. People throw coins up and they would some how get caught in the ceiling. One woman didn't believe it and threw her wedding ring up. It was caught and the staff had to get a ladder to get it.
But on to the natural beauty. An underground river formed the cave. And then, when it rained the rain would seep through the ground and collect minerals too form stalactites. Some drops would drop to the ground and form stalagmites. The way you tell them apart is a stalagmite might reach the ceiling and a stalactite has to hang on tight to the ceiling.
Then there was a small remainder of the river. These were mirror lakes. Mirror lakes live up to their names. It mirrors the ceiling making it look like the lake is 10 feet deep when it is around three inches.

The rest of week for the Fourth of July we saw fire works on the sixth, hurray! We saw Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University on the Fourth. We stayed up until 2:00 am but it was fun. It was a good vacation.
The dogs also had their chaos. Lizzie was sniffing for moles and pawing. Hoover came over and stuck his nose down a hole pushing the ground up. We fortunately caught the two criminals and got their mug shots. And now stay tuned for a soccer week or else you'll be convicted of not reading!
