The Top Ten Funny Moments

Last weekend we had our first soccer game. It was on Sunday and we played against Zionsville. This was our first game playing on a bigger field. I played a position I hadn't played in a while. I was returning to my center back roots. For the entire game, I played center back with one of my teammates. By the end I was extremely tired because in the morning I had gone to a soccer practice in Indianapolis. We ended up winning the game against Zionsville, 3-1. It felt really good to win the first game of the season. It gets you energized for the rest of the season.
I've decided to make a list of some of the funniest things our dogs, including fosters have done over the years. It was extremely hard to limit it to 10. Now for the Top Ten:

10. Hoover eating popcorn off Sebatian's back. One night I threw a piece of popcorn to Hoover. He tried to catch it, but it landed on Sebastian's back. Sebastian didn't realize what was happening even as Hoover snatched it off his back.

9. Lumen eating candy canes and then having rainbow poo. Short story is Lumen grabbed my birthday treats off the table and ate all the brightly colored candy canes. It wasn't funny then but it is now.

8. Percy pouncing on me. I was walking down some stairs on campus when I tripped and fell down in front of some college students. Percy immediately pounced on me! It was like he was trying to hide me from the humiliation.

7. Nikita tattle telling on everyone. Nikita first started when Wiley would try to climb the fence. She would often chase him into a corner or dog house. Another time she saved a kitten from being devoured by Wiley. Her barking alerted mum to come outside. She also caught Alue pulling the dog food bag out of our pantry.

6. Sebastion doing 360s at dinner time. Sebastion was normally a pretty slow guy, but when it was dinner time, he picked up the pace. He would then spin excited circles.

5. Hoover hogging the air conditioning. It doesn't matter if it is in the house or the car. He likes to open his mouth and have the cold air flow into his mouth.

4. Hoover avoiding eye contact with the mini schnauzer dogs. There are three little schnauzers that line up at the fence and yap at our dogs. Hoover wants to bark at them and charge the fence, but we tell him no. Now when we walk by he looks the opposite direction and whines as we pass.

3. Hoover's shrinking spider toy. Hoover has had a lot of toys. Many of them have taken a beating. Hoover's spider toy took quite a beating, but Hoover wouldn't give it up. It kept losing a leg to each foster dog that came along. Hoover loved that spider. Mum finally tossed it when we moved.

2. Wiley was terrified of plastic bags. So Wiley was in the car with my parents going home from the grocery store. He was sitting in the back of the truck with the groceries when a plastic bag rolled toward him. He leaped to the front and landed in mum's lap. I'm told he refused to move.

1. Dakota climbing a mountain of cushions. My parent's first malamute had a leg amputated. The vet didn't want her getting up on things after surgery, but Dakota was a stubborn malamute and kept trying to get on the sofa. Mum stacked several cushions on the sofa to prevent Dakota from jumping on. When she came back, Dakota was laying on top of the stack of cushions, which was about three feet high.  Mum decided to give up.

Hmmm, Lizzie doesn't show up in the Top Ten. I guess she is always so serious.

Hoover's fan club grows every day. Hoover went to Bell Trace on Labor Day with dad. He met a seven year old girl who loved on him. She liked him so much she drew a portrait of him. I like the portrait. I see some of similarities.

Lizzie and the Great Escape

I've begun a new experience in life. It is also a loud experience and Hoover doesn't like loud experiences. I'm talking about middle school and the trombone. I've left University school for Tri-North. It has been interesting at Tri-North. Interesting in that I have so many more teachers now, and that I have to wake up much earlier. I'm starting to play the trombone at school. Hoover doesn't like hearing me practice at home. He runs away. I'm not too good right now, but he doesn't have to be that critical. In a few months he might not run away.
Hoover had a nickname for a few days, for those few days we called Hoover "monkey butt". We found out Hoover had a food allergy. The allergies caused him to constantly gnaw at his back end. This caused all the fur around his buttocks to fall off, thus giving birth to the name "monkey butt". The vet gave Hoover some medication. To help soothe his bottom, dad throws corn starch at his bottom while mum pets him. It's kind of funny to watch.
Lizzie has been very active the past few days. One of the things she did was slip through the gate and trotted down our driveway despite us calling her name. She would look back at us but she never stopped. We were concerned she might run into the road. Luckily, she smelled something and she just had to check it out. I was able to get in front of her and mum came up behind to nab her. Lizzie is protective of the new dog pad mum got for Nikita. When I was flicking the corner of the pad, she suddenly play bowed and nipped at my foot. Nikita should be the one using the dog pad. Fortunately, we have two extra pads now.
Nikita has gotten a little bit better. She doesn't need as much support on her short walks. She has gotten accustomed to her sling, which helps her stay up. She wants to go farther on her walks, but mum and dad redirect her because they know she has to walk back. Lizzie has become Nikita's best friend because she has figured out Nikita gets treats with her pills.
The soccer season will soon start. We've already started practicing. I'm looking forward to playing 11 v 11 with my teammates. Getting to play on a bigger field will be interesting.
Maybe by the time the next blog comes out, I will know how to play a song on the trombone. Maybe Hoover will finally like my music.

Slow Goes Nikita

Nikita didn't have the best week. The reason for this is her back right leg doesn't support her anymore. She can walk or maybe it is more like a wobble. She is having trouble pulling herself up and staying up to go to the bathroom. So to help her we have put more rugs and mats around the house. We give her a little boost when she needs to get up. We borrowed one of mum's coworker's doggie sling to help Nikita use the restroom. Now every time she goes out mum or dad are with her. She has improved some since the first time her right leg failed her. She can now turn around much easier. She is also on a few more medicines. She is even becoming playful again. She was play bowing outside tonight. She still enjoys dinner time! I think mum is spoiling her more than ever.
The cozy corner has returned, better than ever. I say that because I've now added extra padding to make it even cozier. Mum has even hung out in it, too. Of course we still have to take precautions and protect it from hurricane Hoover. He has been allowed in a few times, but always under close supervision. We don't want another incident where hurricane Hoover destroys the fort with his big body. The cozy corner gets to stay up until school starts!!!!
I was over at a friend's house today. I was able to eat my first seafood boil. It was delicious! I definitely want to have it again. Then something not so pleasant happened. We were playing soccer and I kicked the ball into the neighbor's yard. When I went to kick it out, I felt a pain in my arm. I thought it was a bee or wasp so I ran off. My friend went to get his mom. When I checked my arm, I saw a wasp stuck in my sleeve trying to escape. I panicked and attacked my arm trying to get it off. Then everyone sprinted away. Afterwards, we avoided that part of the neighbor's yard. I want to thank my friend's mom for putting ice on my arm. It was all okay because we finished off the day with s'mores. When I got home, it was starting to hurt again. I wanted to help take the dogs for a walk so we wrapped an ice pack around my arm and off we went. It was nice because I stayed cool on the walk.

The Wheels on the Bus Almost Fell Off

Mum and I had an exciting adventure on Friday. Maybe a little too exciting at one point. For anyone that doesn't know what we did, we rode the city bus. It was a new experience. Everything started off fine. We were picked up close to our house. We had to bus hop to get to mum's work. Unfortunately, our first drop off was next to an adult store. I was thinking this wasn't the best place to be waiting for a bus. We finally got to mum's office about an hour after we left our house. It is normally about a five minute drive.
After a few hours at work, we went to our next bus stop. Mum didn't want to miss the bus so we arrived about 20 minutes early. To past time we played silly games. The bus finally arrived and we rode it through campus and got dropped off by the IU Union. Unfortunately, we missed the next bus. Mum saw it, but she realized too late it was the bus we should have boarded. So, we decided to mall walk to the transit center. This is where it gets exciting. We took our next bus to the animal shelter. Along the way we went up and down several streets. As we got closer to the shelter, mum pulled the cord to alert the bus driver we wanted off at the next stop. As we were getting up, the bus shook pretty hard. It caused mum to stumble and I fell back into my seat. At first we thought the bus driver had taken his foot off the brake, but we realized as we stepped off the bus a car had ran
into the bus! The bus didn't look look damaged, but the car took a beating.
After all that excitement, we made it to the animal shelter. We met some wonderful dogs and cats. One of the awesome dogs we met was Marley. Marley is a shepherd/pyrenees mix about 11 months old. She is a shy girl. Hopefully she will find a good home that will take good care of her.
I have to confess, we decided to call dad to give us a ride to the Chocolate Moose. We had attracted to much attention on the bus and wanted to lay low for a bit. After a delicious ice cream sandwich, I was feeling quite good again. We were going to finish our day with a bus ride home. We hung out at the transit center for several minutes before the bus arrived. We went all through campus again and finally ended up at our home base. I will remember this adventure for the rest of my life and tell my kids about it.
I told you in the last blog I would be going to the IU soccer camp. IU soccer camp was a blast! I must say the food there was scrumptious! I was able to have bacon everyday! Mum was horrified when she heard that. Of course IU soccer camp isn't about the food, it's about the soccer...and playing cards. It was great fun playing soccer with some of my teammates. In our off time, it was great fun playing cards with them, too. It was all topped off with world cup tourney. My team pulled a three seed upset over the number one seed to win the championship. But really, it was all just for fun and we had a great time playing in the mud. I'm definitely doing IU soccer camp again.

Soccer Glory

We are the champions!  I'm glad to say we are the new women's FIFA World Cup champions. Mum missed the first two goals on her way home. Then somehow she missed the third. She thought it would be awhile before something else happened so she went to take care of Nikita, suddenly she heard, "GOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!" Mum had missed another goal. Hoover enjoyed parts of the game, so much so he put his face right up to the TV. Nikita and Lizzie didn't seem too interested, they slept through the game.
I discovered something startling today. Looking at different web sites, I've learned the women were paid around $2 million dollars for winning the World Cup. The U.S. men got at least $8 million for reaching the round of 16 last year. Each of the 32 men's teams got $1.5 million just for participating. That is a pretty shocking pay difference.

In other soccer related news, Cutters had a parade float for the Fourth of July. They wanted some players to dribble and juggle by the float. Mum was elected to ride the float because she has a bad knee. We got there early. It was fun juggling in the parade. However, none of us were able to see dad sitting in the crowd. I was juggling so I couldn't always look at the crowd. Mum did not have an excuse. Dad got a picture of her waving at the camera. She claims she didn't see him.

I have another camp to look forward to, it's the IU men's soccer overnight camp. Last year I had a great time. I'm looking forward to playing some soccer and soccer tennis. I know the food will be better than at Franklin College. You can look forward to hearing about IU's food in the next blog. Also, we will be having our own World Cup next Sunday. Hopefully I won't lose my ball this time. At least I do get a new ball at camp.

Gravy not Even a Dog Would Eat

People love Hoover, it's a fact. He is a very handsome boy. When dad takes Hoover to Bell Trace, a senior center, the staff and residents say he should be in movies and commercials. I personally wouldn't want Hoover to be gone for a long time so I'm fine with him staying here with the family. But people still want to see and hear about Hoover. So, I gave him a Facebook page. Hoover gives me his ideas and I put them on the page. Hoover's page is called A Day in the Life of Hoover . We post every so often. You can expect to see a lot more posts from Hoover's page than this blog. So get ready for lots of Hoover and his friends.
Last Thursday we did a good deed. We transported one of the Northern Lights Sled Dogs to Anderson, which is a two hour drive away from Bloomington. It was two hours of fun with Hook, the dog we were transporting. The ride home was very, very long. Hook is a VERY skinny boy. You could feel his backbone. Mum and I wanted to keep him to fatten him up. We would have done a good job because Lizzie has put on 10 plus pounds. She looks good now. Hook is a very sweet boy. He liked to be petted and enjoyed having company around. It was fun driving up with him. It is good to know he is with some good people now. If you're wondering why his name is Hook, it's because he was found with a fish hook in his mouth. He will be ready for adoption at Northern Lights.
On Friday I went to Franklin, Indiana for soccer mini-camp. I would stay there for the weekend. As we got there it was pouring, so the fields were flooded. All the teams had to share a gym and the college football field on Friday and Saturday. The schedule changed a lot but the overall play was fun. However, I know I wasn't there for the food. I never knew biscuits and gravy could taste so awful. I didn't think you could mess up biscuits and gravy. The gravy was clumpy with a bad flavor! We had a lot of gravy over the weekend, none of it was enjoyable. They fed us mashed potatoes two nights in a row, even that gravy was awful. The one thing I liked about the food was their hamburgers. They looked like McDonald's hamburgers, but they were very flavorful. Thank you for reading Ian's food blog!

Oh-brr Comes to Visit

We meet a new friend on Tuesday, his name is Oh-brr. Our cousins came to visit us on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's a big deal because they live in Minnesota and we don't get to see them often. Oh-brr is a 4 and 1/2 month old husky/lab/shepherd mix. Hoover was surprised to see an energetic puppy on his doorstep.Oh-brr ran circles around Hoover outside. Hoover was trying to assert his dominance over Oh-brr, but he didn't pay much attention to Hoover's demands. Hoover was a grumpy dog, but he hid behind dad when he did it. Lizzie wasn't sure what to make of Oh-brr at first. She hid behind a patio chair and examined her new guest.
Oh-brr was very playful! He tried to play with Nikita. He didn't realize she is 15 years old. Oh-brr almost knocked her over, but she managed to stay up. However, the second time she wasn't so fortunate. She fell over and we had to help her get up.
Later on in the day, Oh-brr and family went to watch me play soccer at Cutter's player placement. After practice, we took Oh-brr to Chipotle. Our cousins want Oh-brr to be a therapy dog. So our goal at Chipotle was to see if he could stay quiet there with no one noticing him. Oh-brr passed the test. A contributing factor to his success may have been he tired himself out after spending the day with our dogs. To finish the day off we visited the Light Totem. Dad and Oh-brr rested while we put our legs up the wall.

The next day we found out Oh-brr knows how to swim. He had a blast splashing in the water. Mum got some video of him swimming out in the lake. I didn't see it because I was swimming myself. I did enjoy watching the video over and over.
We played a lot of games over Tuesday and Wednesday, except for soccer. I got them to play my geek game, King of Tokyo. We played Trivia Pursuit. Some of us got easier questions than others. When I say easy, I mean easy! Overall, it was a great two days! Although, I'm not sure how the dogs felt. I KNOW they were exhausted.
