Soccer Glory

We are the champions!  I'm glad to say we are the new women's FIFA World Cup champions. Mum missed the first two goals on her way home. Then somehow she missed the third. She thought it would be awhile before something else happened so she went to take care of Nikita, suddenly she heard, "GOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!" Mum had missed another goal. Hoover enjoyed parts of the game, so much so he put his face right up to the TV. Nikita and Lizzie didn't seem too interested, they slept through the game.
I discovered something startling today. Looking at different web sites, I've learned the women were paid around $2 million dollars for winning the World Cup. The U.S. men got at least $8 million for reaching the round of 16 last year. Each of the 32 men's teams got $1.5 million just for participating. That is a pretty shocking pay difference.

In other soccer related news, Cutters had a parade float for the Fourth of July. They wanted some players to dribble and juggle by the float. Mum was elected to ride the float because she has a bad knee. We got there early. It was fun juggling in the parade. However, none of us were able to see dad sitting in the crowd. I was juggling so I couldn't always look at the crowd. Mum did not have an excuse. Dad got a picture of her waving at the camera. She claims she didn't see him.

I have another camp to look forward to, it's the IU men's soccer overnight camp. Last year I had a great time. I'm looking forward to playing some soccer and soccer tennis. I know the food will be better than at Franklin College. You can look forward to hearing about IU's food in the next blog. Also, we will be having our own World Cup next Sunday. Hopefully I won't lose my ball this time. At least I do get a new ball at camp.

  1. Ian, here's the best comparison on the Soccer pay difference, from the "Washington Post": For the U.S. national team's stunning 5-2 win over Japan at the Women's World Cup on Sunday, a rout that made the Americans the first team ever to win three world championships, soccer's global governing body will award the team $2 million — about 5 percent of the $35 million FIFA gave to the German victors of last year's World Cup." That's a year-to-year, win-to-win comparison.

I just wanted you to be a little more appalled. ^_^

You're off to soccer camp now. I am praying - PRAYING - the food will be better this time. ~_^
